Our 5 peaks challenge is a joint venture between two of us, Oliver Millington (me) and Adam Chambers, we have been mates since meeting at school in 2002 and have always been in to stuff thats a little bit "off the beaten track". We are now in different colleges, I am at Bilbrough college Nottingham taking A-levels and Adam is at West Nottinghamshire college studying Engineering. Perhaps its the combination of stress from these high calibre courses and our desire to do something for Cancer Research that sparked the fateful text message "Aup dude, Bit bored, Fancy an Adventure?" We can never sit still indoors and always have the urge to things that raise the eyebrows of those deemed "sane", but why not? And all for Charity!
Thus was born "the Five Peaks Challenge", our unique slant on the oft. attempted National three peaks challenge that many "Challenge seekers" like ourselves have embarked upon. Our idea was, at first, simple. Do the three peaks challenge. Then, we realised the controversial issues that currently surround driving such great distances by car and the damage these challenges can cause to the tourist tracks. "Okay," we thought, "lets go a different way." It is heard of for the three peaks challenge to be walked or cycled, but by this time we'd got "the bug" and things quickly spiralled out of control. The upshot of this, is that we are going to Climb the Highest mountains in each of Wales, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland - travelling in between each mountain by walking to the coast, then hopping in two self sufficient Sea Kayaks.
Our challenge is the first of its kind, we will be the first team to attempt the 5 mountains in succession, entirely self sufficiently by manpower, using our own navigational skills (no sat-nav) and our own sense of determination.
